Dermaplaning vs the Customized UltraFacial: Which Treatment Is Right This Month?
Two no-downtime treatments that do very different things. Dermaplaning lifts dead skin and fine hair for instant smoothness; the UltraFacial extracts, hydrates and infuses. How to choose.

People often book these interchangeably, and they are not interchangeable. Both are gentle, both have no downtime, and both leave skin looking better the same day. What they do underneath is different, and choosing well means knowing what your skin needs this month rather than what it needed last time.
Dermaplaning: the instant-smoothness treatment
A sterile surgical blade is drawn across the skin at a fine angle, lifting away the outermost dead cells and the fine vellus hair most of us have on the cheeks and jaw. Skin is immediately smoother to the touch, makeup sits flatter, and serums penetrate better because there is nothing in the way. It takes about thirty minutes.
It suits most skin except active acne, and the hair does not grow back thicker; that is a myth. It grows back exactly as it was, in three to four weeks.
The Customized UltraFacial: the working facial
This is medical-grade hydradermabrasion. A vortex handpiece cleanses and loosens debris, a gentle acid step softens congestion, a suction tip performs real extraction, and the skin is then flooded with hydrating and antioxidant serums chosen for how it presents on the day. Dehydrated skin gets one infusion; congested, oily skin gets another. It is a working treatment rather than relaxation theatre, and it takes about forty-five minutes.
How to choose
- Peach fuzz, flat texture, makeup that clings: dermaplaning.
- Blackheads, congestion, oiliness, tight dehydrated skin: the UltraFacial.
- Before a wedding or photographs: dermaplaning three to five days before, or the UltraFacial the day before.
- Between resurfacing series, as maintenance: alternate them monthly.
Afterwards
Both treatments leave skin more receptive, which is the moment to give it something worth absorbing. A gentle cleansing complex, a cooling hyaluronic serum and a daily moisturiser under mineral zinc protection is the routine we bundle as Post-Facial Glow on the Continued Treatment page. Skip exfoliating acids and retinol for two to three days after dermaplaning, since the skin's top layer has just been removed for you.
Questions we hear
- Does dermaplaning make hair grow back thicker?
- No. Vellus hair grows back with the same fine texture at the same rate, usually within three to four weeks. The blade cuts the hair; it does not change the follicle.
- Is the UltraFacial the same as a HydraFacial?
- It is the same category of medical hydradermabrasion, with extraction, exfoliation and serum infusion. Ours is adapted to your skin on the day rather than run as a fixed sequence.
- How often should I have a facial?
- Skin renews on roughly a four-week cycle, so monthly is the natural rhythm. Many patients alternate dermaplaning and the UltraFacial from month to month.
