Dermal Fillers: Restoring Structure, Not Inflating It
Filler done well restores volume where age has genuinely taken it — cheeks, lips, chin and jawline — with Restylane, Revanesse, Sculptra and PRP. What each does and how to recover well.

The face loses structure before it loses skin. Fat pads in the midface shrink and slide, bone at the jaw and around the eyes remodels, and the skin that used to be supported starts to fold. Filler, used properly, puts support back where it was, which is why a well-treated face looks rested rather than plumped.
That distinction is the whole craft. Chasing a fold with filler inflates the fold. Restoring the cheek that used to hold the fold up lifts it.
The materials, and what each is for
- Restylane and Revanesse: hyaluronic acid gels in a range of firmness, for lips, cheeks, chin, jawline and under-eye hollows. Reversible with an enzyme, which is a real safety advantage.
- Sculptra: a biostimulator that triggers your own collagen over two to three months, for diffuse volume loss across the temples, cheeks and jaw. Results build gradually and last around two years.
- PRP: platelet-rich plasma drawn from your own blood, used to improve skin quality and support healing, often alongside microneedling.
The appointment
After your consultation, your injector plans placement against your anatomy rather than a template, marks the face, and uses numbing cream or a filler that contains lidocaine. Most areas take fifteen to thirty minutes. You will see the shape immediately, then it softens as swelling settles.
Recovery, honestly
- Expect swelling for two to five days, most in the lips, and possible bruising for up to two weeks.
- Sleep with your head slightly raised for the first two nights; avoid alcohol, hard exercise and heat for forty-eight hours.
- Do not massage or press the area unless instructed. Small lumps in the first week are usually swelling and resolve.
- Judge the result at two weeks, not two days.
Supporting the result at home
A post-injection serum designed for treated skin reduces bruising and swelling and improves hydration around the filler. A cooling botanical mask calms the first few days. Longer term, daily collagen peptides and a hyaluronic acid serum support the skin quality that makes filler look natural, and a peptide wrinkle serum extends the smoothness between visits.
Questions we hear
- How long does dermal filler last?
- Hyaluronic acid fillers last about nine to twelve months in the lips and twelve to eighteen months in the cheeks and jawline. Sculptra results last around two years because they are your own collagen.
- Can filler be reversed?
- Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if needed. Sculptra and PRP cannot be reversed, which is why they are placed conservatively over more than one session.
- Does filler stretch the skin over time?
- Not when it is dosed to restore rather than exaggerate. Over-filling is what causes the stretched look, and it is avoidable with conservative placement and honest reviews.
