The Post-Injectable Aftercare Routine Our Injectors Recommend

The forty-eight hours after neuromodulators or filler decide how much bruising you see and how quickly swelling settles. The do-and-do-not list, and the two products designed for treated skin.

Injectables are quick, and the aftercare is quick too, but it decides a surprising amount: how much bruising shows, how fast swelling settles, and, for neuromodulators, whether the product stays exactly where your injector placed it. This is the list our injectors give at the end of every appointment.

The first twenty-four hours

  • Do not rub, massage or press the treated area unless instructed. After neuromodulators, keep upright for four hours and skip facials and hats that press on the forehead.
  • No hard exercise, saunas, hot yoga or hot showers. Heat and raised blood pressure increase bruising and swelling.
  • No alcohol for the rest of the day, and avoid blood-thinning supplements such as fish oil and high-dose vitamin E for a day or two if your physician agrees.
  • Sleep with your head raised on an extra pillow for the first two nights after filler.
  • Makeup can wait until the next morning; use clean brushes.

The two products designed for this

Most skincare is not formulated for skin that has just been injected. Two products are. A post-injection serum with a technology designed to help the skin clear bruising more quickly, improve hydration and plumpness, and cool on contact. Apply it from the evening of treatment, twice a day, for a week or two.

The second is a cooling botanical mask with cucumber, thyme and olive extracts, clinically tested on post-procedure skin to reduce redness and discomfort. Ten minutes in the evening for the first few days takes the heat out.

Filler-specific notes

Lips swell most and settle over three to five days; a cold compress wrapped in cloth, ten minutes at a time, helps on day one. Cheeks and jawline swell less but can bruise more. Small lumps you can feel in the first week are usually swelling and resolve; anything that concerns you at two weeks is what your review appointment is for.

Between appointments

Once settled, the routine that extends results is the one in the Injectable and Collagen Support package: a needle-free peptide wrinkle serum, glycation defence for the collagen, and daily collagen peptides. A pre- and post-care mist with hypochlorous acid is useful to keep on hand for cleansing treated skin without rubbing.

Questions we hear

How long does bruising last after filler?
Typically five to ten days. A post-injection serum applied from the evening of treatment and avoiding heat, alcohol and exercise for the first day keep it to a minimum.
Can I exercise after Botox?
Wait until the next day. Raised blood pressure and lying flat in the first hours can move the product from where it was placed.
When can I wear makeup after injectables?
The next morning, with clean brushes. Avoid pressing on the treated area while applying it.
